The Battle of Ideas 2007 was a tremendous success. More than
a thousand people attended on Saturday and almost the same
again on Sunday, with more than 1500 people battling over
the weekend. As the quotes below indicate, the 'Battle' not
only pulled in the crowd, but more importantly, it generated
a genuine enthusiasm and passion for looking at issues more
deeply and taking politics more seriously, beyond
the narrow confines of Westminster, single issue campaigns,
managerialism and consensus.
If you were unfortunate enough to miss the festival weekend,
Battle of Ideas media partners FORA.tv
have a number of full-length videos of debates, with new ones
added weekly. Friction.tv
has online video debates featuring 'Battle' speakers and the
Times
Online Battle of Ideas blog features articles from speakers
and Times writers.
Also, be sure to have a quick look at (and a long read of!)
this year's specially commissioned collection of essays running
alongside Battle of Ideas debates, the Battles
in Print.
If you loved the Battle of Ideas, join
the IoI and benefit from reduced ticket prices to IoI

Science and politics of climate change
The Battle of Ideas session on climate
change featured a frank exchange of views between the
eminent panellists in a debate which was described by one

Battle
of Ideas testimonials "I enjoyed every minute and was very impressed by the commitment and
concern from the audience. Their response graphically illustrated that
a truly public forum as free as possible from political bias can be a
huge success."
"The Battle is now an established benchmark and goes from strength
to strength."
"The place was absolutely packed! What a success."
"It made me rethink some of my ideas which is always a good thing."
"The quality of audience comments was stronger than I've heard at
other debates, which made it particularly rewarding."
"The calibre of panels and level of debate was impressive in all
the sessions I attended, but what I really found unique was the incredibly
vibrant, inclusive and open atmosphere."
"I am deeply impressed by the flawless and flowing nature of such
a large group of 'thinking' people!"
"...the best Battle yet!"
